The Story
In the town of Gallin, roughly 70 kilometres east of Hamburg, we built a new distribution centre for DeLaval, the leading provider of milking and animal care solutions for the dairy industry.
The 57,000-square-metre facility was specially constructed to ensure the safe storage and handling of a wide range of parts and products with special requirements, ranging from very small spare parts such as nuts and bolts to sophisticated milking robots designed to accommodate two cows at the same time. In addition to the small parts warehouse and a large hall for the milking robots, Verdion designed another part of the distribution facility especially for storing cow mats and mattresses.
DeLaval required this new complex not only as a modern logistics facility for its wide and varied range of parts and products but also as a headquarters for its pan-European distribution. The company employs a total of 230 people at this location and, given the shortage of skilled workers in the industry, wanted to ensure that the focus was on the wellbeing of its valued staff. With this goal in mind, Verdion delivered a tailor-made office complex with a beautifully designed company canteen directly connected to the distribution centre by way of a bridge. This part of the complex also has sports and yoga rooms for staff, as well as a creative area where employees can read, rest or chat with colleagues. Given the importance of sustainability, the parking areas include ample charging stations for employees with electric cars.
“Through the course of the project development and subsequent support, we have come to appreciate Verdion as a professional partner. The tailor-made structure helps us to fulfil the complex requirements of our customers in a way which is logistically efficient. And the location leaves space for our further growth.”
