The story
In the town of Weilheim, located an hour’s drive southwest of Munich, Verdion developed a purpose-built corporate complex for Xylem encompassing manufacturing, distribution, R&D, offices and common areas totalling 15,000 square meters. Xylem produces sophisticated laboratory equipment for water quality testing, including wastewater, marine and coastal water, as well as for applications in the food, beverage, environmental, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. To optimally meet a key project requirement of ensuring sterile environments in both production and the R&D laboratory, Verdion specially designed the structures to minimise pathways between the respective sterile zones.
On the rooftop areas, Verdion provided not only for extensive solar generation but also green areas. The solar generation systems supply Xylem with photovoltaic electricity as well as hot water for heating. The innovative rainwater recycling system is of particularly importance to Xylem as a global leader in water technology. Finally, the laboratory building offers a spacious roof terrace from which staff and guests can enjoy a spectacular view of the Bavarian Alps.
Construction was completed in June 2021. Verdion completed the project with a total investment of approx. EUR 25.5 million provided by our funding partner Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).
“WTW, which was renamed Xylem in 2016, has been operating in Weilheim since 1954 and therefore has deep roots in this town. We are therefore especially pleased that we were able to secure a new location in Weilheim with our project partner Verdion to provide the space urgently needed for our expansion. The new building has enabled us to modernise our production and increase efficiency. This, in turn, opens up new growth opportunities for us.”
